NIA HOLDS GRAND STAKEHOLDERS’ FORUM IN ILOCANDIA

Batac City, Ilocos Norte - The National Irrigation Administration Regional Office No. 1 (NIA R1) successfully conducted its 2nd Stakeholders' Forum for Ilocos Norte Irrigation Management Office (INIMO) at the Northstellar Hotel and Events Place in Batac City, Ilocos Norte on October 4, 2019.

Guest of Honor and Speaker, NIA Administrator Ricardo R. Visaya said that the main objective of the forum which was attended by representatives of various farmers organizations, heads of government line agencies, public officials and representatives of LGUs is to provide a venue for the efficient transfer of 'know how' and exchanges of information among stakeholders in order to fast track irrigation development in Ilocos Norte.

He further explained that irrigation development must not be hampered to increase agricultural productivity and farmers income throughout the country. Col. Audrey Pasia, Commander of the 702 Infantry Brigade who reported the state of the province’s internal security underscored the relevance of peace and order in the community. He emphasized that with significant reforms in agriculture under the Duterte administration, it is expected that insurgency - related activities being instigated by left - leaning groups to hamper national progress will soon be a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, NIA Acting Regional Manager Angelito S. Miguel reported on the government’s stepped up reforms in irrigation development. He cited the ongoing big ticket projects in the province such as the multi - million Ilocos Norte Irrigation Project (INIP), the National Irrigation System Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (NISRIP) which operates the Madongan and Solsona River Irrigation Systems and the Sulvec Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SSRIP).

The momentous event culminated with signing of covenant that seeks to speed up the construction and rehabilitation of irrigation facilities with utmost cooperation and support from every sector of the society. Important provisions of Republic Act 10969 otherwise known as the Free Irrigation Service Act (FISA) of 2018 is currently being streamlined by NIA to assertain that farmers benefits will be delivered efficiently
